I enjoy reading novels set during WWII, especially ones about an aspect of the war/period about which I was previously unaware. Everybody knows about the horrible deportation of Jews by Hitler, but I was completely clueless about Stalin's deportation of millions of people from the Baltics and Finland.

Excellent details and description about a time that we don't really learn about in American schools. This is an excellent alternative to Holocaust fiction, still set during WWII, but from a completely different oppressed population.
