Holy ambition, Batman! Blonde Roots is an alternate history where Aphrikans are the slaveholders and European Whytes are the slaves. I had my doubts about the premise, which had the potential to go very wrong and result in yet another ham-fisted, stereotyping, and offensive piece of literature that tried and failed to effectively explore racial issues. I am conflicted on how to rate this book. On one hand it is a fascinating think piece and perhaps could help white supremacists put themselves in others shoes (though I doubt they would read it). On the other hand it seems problematic to reverse the narrative so to speak because it’s not really fair to imagine subjugated peoples as oppressors. Definitely a good read and gives one a lot to think about.
