کتاب "نفرتی که شما می‌دهید" بر اساس یکی از اتفاق‌های روز جامعه آمریکاست و جنبشی که براساسش راه افتاده: خشونت پلیس بر علیه سیاهان و جنبش "زندگی سیاهان اهمیت داره". اوایل کتاب از زبان شخصیت اول کتاب که یک دختر شانزده ساله سیاه‌پوسته توصیه پدرش را می‌شنویم "اگر پلیس نگهتون داشت دستتون را کامل بیرون بگذارید طوری که کامل دیده شوند؛ هیچ حرکت ناگهانی نکنید و هر چی گفتن بدون چون‌وچرا انجام بدهید". خواندن این توصیه‌ از زبان شخصیت اصلی و توضیحش که این صحبتی است که بیشتر خانواده‌های سیاه‌پوست با نوجوانانش ...more

This book uses the young adult format to convey a timely and powerful story. The main character was realistic and beautifully written, and I found myself crying a few times in the middle when the enormity of what Starr was going through overwhelmed me.
