Wanted to like it more than I did.
Very interesting memoir told through essays. Beautiful, poetic, truthful, heart wrenching writing. I received an mp3 cd from Librarything in exchange for my honest r view. Hope to see many more books from her. We need to hear more from strong females like her who tell it like it is about things like PTSD, anxiety, molestation, abuse, etc. She tackles the hard subjects.
Twice I have read this for book clubs. When I reread it I had no memory of the first reading other than it being by a Indigenous writer and that Sherman Alexie wrote the introduction. The second time around I realize that what I appreciate about memoirs is you get a glimpse into lives different from your own and this life is very different from mine. I am lucky to have not suffered trauma nor to have a mental health diagnosis let alone multiple. I have never had a child taken away from my custod

I devoured this book. The prose is so delicious, the author's voice so compelling. The beauty of the language kept me reading more than the "story," but I was so engaged that I really wanted more explanation of the different characters and their role in the author's life. It's quite spare, which only increased my longing.
