A word about how I use the star rating system for books. I won’t read something I think is one star past the first chapter. Two stars, I might get halfway, but don’t think the book is for me. So I read this in one night, the night of my daughter's second birthday - and it was absolutely perfect. There were so many lines that I KNOW I had thought myself, it was uncanny. I think the "before I was ready" subtitle initially made me a little apprehensive - but here's a secret: NO ONE IS EVER READY TO HAVE A BABY. So funny, so honest, so so so good.

I probably would have given this 5 stars 20 years ago, but at 53 this seems so long ago for me. However, it did bring up some long forgotten good feels, heartache and guilt of being a new first time parent. Well written!
