Wow. This was so powerful, and freaky as hell but I could not stop reading. Translation has also been extremely well done. Like a punch to the gut.
A very chilling novel - the scene is set from the first brief chapter and then rewinds back in time to help us understand the events that lead to this catastrophic ending. We therefore understand that this is a “whydunnit” not a “whodunnit” but despite the police chief saying on the penultimate page she’s investigating the rotten soul of Louise and wants to understand everything, the reader is never given much of a satisfactory answer to this question.
