Second read - mostly in audio
It was fun to go back and revisit this story and rejoice in the fact that it not only holds up on the second go round but still holds the spot as my favorite in the series. Having the Midnight Games in the background, some really cool mythology and watching the beginning of the mating dances for both Kate/Curran and Andrea/Raphael were all good. Though 'Magic Strikes' could be read as standalone, you miss out on a lot of world building and character development, which adds a great deal to your enjoyment of the novel. For best effect read the first two novels in Ilona Andrews's 'Kate Daniels' series - in order they are, Magic Bites and Magic Burns. There are some companion novellas, but you can get away without reading them in the main sequence.
