This was not what I expected.
For some reason I thought it was going to be steampunk - it wasn't really even though there were some steampunkish gadgets for antitech reasons. I did really like this though. The beast is a scarred former army ranger, beauty is a burlesque dancer and the bad guys are servants of Fate. There's a mild touch of magic, and a little bit of smexy time right off the bat.
