After reading/listening to the Daevabad Trilogy, I’m easily persuaded to read/listen anything with Middle Eastern/Arabic Mythology/Folklore.

This has a relaxed, bittersweet, dramatic vibe to it- think of it as fancy restaurant vs fast food (for your brain).

The Audible had me in a trance during its world building. Seriously beautiful plotting... can’t wait to dive into book 2 later this year.
4.25/5 (Rounding up)

I had a hard time sticking to this book. I'd happily read along and then found I couldn't pick it back up b/c I was so worried about what was going to happen. This book is really about New York City as seen through the eyes of Middle Eastern immigrants at the turn of the 20th century. Yes, there is a bit of the supernatural here by virtue of the fact that the two main characters are not human, but it's still mostly about human struggles and human issues.
And, in the end, it's a kind of love story. Sort of. Kind of.
The real question is, did I like this book? Well, I'm not really sure. I do know that I wouldn't read it again, but would I recommend it? We

I really enjoyed The Golem and the Jinni, a historical urban fantasy which gives glimpses of two immigrant communities in 1890's New York through the eyes of two human looking creatures from each of the culture's mystical past as the pair try to fit into the human world - both while trying to hide the fact that they aren't human.

The two main characters are a newly 'born' female Golem who was created to be a wife to an emigrating Jewish master who dies while on the voyage to New York and a male
