This book was a little surprising - it starts out with a bang, a character who is a bit miserable, yet relatable, who is struck by tragedy along with his family.
For a short period in the book (say 30% in?) I started to lose interest, thinking it was going to be a run of the mill post-apocalyptic book.

I have seen this book lurking about the past few months. I even got it for a "deal" on my e-reader. I don't know why I choose to read these kind of stories on airplanes, but I do. I even got up at 5am to finish this story so the family would not bother me. I do not know what I was expecting. I cannot tell you what to expect. 3.5 stars. This was good book. It was different than most apocalypse books. It is one man's journey as he tries to get to his family after being separated. It is a wonderful story and worth reading.

This was a very tense read for me because this is one of those things I imagine could happen at any time and it's terrifying to me. I've read books that have taken place after an apocalyptic event but usually it's after the world has had time to rebuild somewhat. This one takes you through the event and what happens for the following months after.
