If you decide to read The Hunger you can expect a gripping story of horror, the supernatural, history, survival and romance. What made this book unique was its ability to draw you in, and put you right in the middle of the Donner party with all the families and individuals that made it up . You'll be spending the night out in the cold, wondering if you'll be able to survive the winter. This book was really well written and I was surprised to find that the author used the real names from history with the exception of one. I think most people know what you are talking about if you mention Donner party. I am one of those, even though I had never read anything about it and it obviously wasn't taught in schools when I was school age. I assume it probably still isn't because of subject matter.
