What a beautiful book! I laughed, then cried, then laughed and cried some more.
The harrowing experiences of WWII and how it changed the lives of the people on the island of Guernsey forever will stay with you as you read it. And when you finish reading it, you'll want to go back to the beginning and read it all over again.

Loved listening to this. I think the audio with the multiple narrators was the best way to take in this story. This is a post WWII story told through the perspective of letters.
I knew nothing of the occupation in Guernsey and now want to know so much more. It sounds like a lovely place that maybe one day I can get the chance to visit. I love how a group of people came together because of the occupation and found a love of books, literature and respect for one another. Its crazy how something so ...more

This was such an old-fashioned epistolary novel. I absolutely adored it. The characters and the location were just so charming and touching. The book is about recovering from WW2 and how the love of books help in said recovery. I cried at times and laughed out loud at others. What more can you possibly ask for in a book?

I dont do HF. I simply don't esp around WW2 and for 2 very good reasons one of which I wont mention coz it's just personally political. And the other major reason is the usually inevitable sad or bittersweet endings which I cannot stand.
So this is my first ever HF, I believe and now I'm dying to read more.

Having visited Jersey last year, it kind of stuck to me how it must be to live on a small island. TGLPPS describes how it was in AND after war time (WOII). Not only this makes the book very interesting, but especially the human interest part made the book special. It describes how far one goes for it's basic needs, how people survive the war their own way. What are one's boundaries? Most importantly, how a positive attitude can reach (allmost) all. And of course love is a big part of live, wheth

I loved this story so much! The audiobook was excellent. Sometimes with different readers, it's not so good, but this was great! I loved all the characters, from our "sunny" (ha ha) MC Juliet to even the unpleasant religious lady. I'm sure if her head bumps had been felt, she'd have had some lack of love and compassion! While there were two sad parts, I didn't cry, and I LOL'ed too many times to count! Highly recommend (now Guernsey has been added to my bucket list!)

Omg omg omg! What was that? I just went on a rollercoaster ride and I cannot feel myself! What a brilliant book! I loved everyone! I loved everything! And so perfectly cottagecore! Loved it! I thought in certain situations I would end up hating it but then even those situations were eloquently handled! Juliet was lovely and so was isola and eben and dawsey.. oh gosh!
