TBR takedown, November 2021. Adventure story with pirates, buried chest. Long John Silver was here before he started selling fast food. Entertaining. Rating between 3 and 4. 3.8 stars.

I've never really had any desire to read Treasure Island, but I'm glad I had to for class. It was really cool to see exactly where all of our pirate lore comes from and just how influential this book has been on our culture. It's chock-full of details about ships and sailing and battles, and while none of that really appeals to me, it's easy to see how boys would absolutely adore it. Luckily, I had an academic press copy that had good footnotes. ...more

I know the story quite well - did the musical in high school, but I've never actually read the book!
I loved it - a good story about the good and the bad. Somehow I can't help but liking Long John Silver.

The Candlewick edition is is a particularly gorgeous copy of Treasure Island--great for gift giving to a pirate obsessed child. But I wished for a few annotations to explain some of the more complicated sea and/or ship related moments. There were definitely spots where I missed some of the action.

RE-READ! Aye, Jim Lad. 'Tis a fine adventure we be on! Man, I love this book. I don't even care. I was so excited that it was on the 1,001 list. I re-read it for the umpteenth time. 😄 And I'll watch any film adaptation with great relish, the Muppets version being my favorite! 37/1,001 ...more

I read this on a train on a European vacation and it was perfect! Gripping page-turner with fantastic characters. Immediately fell in love with a good old-fashioned adventure story and understand why pirates remain such a vital part of our current fantastical culture.
