I kept hoping this book would get better. The first 350pgs were tedious, but that's true of other books by this author. He does tend to take hundreds of pages to set up his characters and the backstory for the plot, and there is a murder in this novel. In fact, there is a murder and a murder investigation and a sensational trial. Some very interesting characters and a some deep discussion about religion, faith, atheism and lots of other things. I could have like a more clear story line with less noise. I liked Crime and Punishment better.
