This was a fairly delicious nighttime soap opera, not unlike Falcon’s Crest was in the ‘80s. Substitute an ice rink for a hotel and a legendary ice skating family for a hotel magnate’s clan and you’ve got The Favorites. (Okay, did I forget to mention that you totally need a little Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding flavor added?)

“His love for me hadn't been motivation enough to reach his full potential. His hatred, though? That made him capable of anything.”

I know very little about professional ice skating. So I went into this one a bit hesitant if I'd like it. I highly recommend the audiobook. The additional readers and chaos added to the story and gave the interview pieces the perfect timing and gravity.

Mariana Zapata but in the style of Daisy Jones & The Six

So... a whole lot of people have loved this book, and that's great. It just wasn't for me, but I think it was mostly due to my own preferences. I'm not much of an angsty New Adult fan unless the characters are compelling, the writing is smart (and/or funny), or the storyline is immersive. And that just didn't happen for me. In the beginning I was interested, but then it just seemed like drama for the sake of drama.

Kat came across as selfish, because not once did she take Heath wants into consideration when she wanted to go after being an ice dancer. It was clear he was only doing it to be close to her.

I guess the line, "skating is my first love," should have told me something.
