I stayed up way too late at night reading this book and the other two books in the series! The characters were so vivid, and the plot had so many twists that it kept me interested and guessing all the way through. More than anything else, I thought this series was a fascinating exploration of all the different facets of morality, and what constitutes the "right thing" to do.

I really liked this "ninja" story. Yes, what else are the "wetboys" if not ninjas, right? I liked the characters a lot and the story itself was interesting - every tiny detail had a significance of some sort. Though I do think that if there had been fewer characters, the story wouldn't have felt so... scattered, I guess. For example, Logan and Kyllar should have been best friends but they had what, four? five? scenes together? So, because of the abundance of story threads, there was little space

though this has plenty of thumbs-up from GR reviewers, the glaring/dead-eyed cover pose and description of an assassin's coming-of-age tale had me more than a little leery that i was in for some stab, stab, level up, stab, dude-fantasy of the most eye-rolling sort. i ended up quite pleasantly surprised that 'the way of shadows' instead was a compulsively readable story with totally engaging characters. these guys aren't assassins just to be b ...more

A rite of passage and preparation for the time an assassin's apprentice needs to step up when things go sideways.
The Way of Shadows seems to be lumped in with some of the GrimDark fantasy novels which have been in vogue for some time now. And there's plenty of darkness in the novel, but I agree with the author that there's a ray of hope shining through the darkness. ...more
