I admit that I took this book seriously when I read it many years ago. I really felt for Alice’s feeling awkward and like an outsider. What happened rang true enough to me; I knew plenty of fellow high school kids in the 60s and 70s in San Francisco who lived like Alice both before, during, and after her drug use. As I was reading this a little voice in my head was saying, "something doesn't quite ring true here," but I ignored it. Then when I was about halfway through it got too depressing and I decided life was too short. Then I came here to Goodreads and discovered the book was basically a hoax (that is, it was not actually a real diary of a real girl, as advertised, but a work of fiction written by an adult youth counselor and dishonestly passed off as a real diary) and I was just the last one to get ...more

I picked this book up after my friend read me the button button whos got the botton chapter. I could not belive what I was hearing. It was amazing. I ran out and bought this outstanding book.
