Thought provoking and uncomfortable, like much of Ian McEwan's work. Fiona is a prickly character, and she can come across as difficult to like, but she has a lot of emotion and anguish stuffed below the surface. I thought the portrayal of Adam was excellent, and the two are an effective, though problematic, pair.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book so good that I just did not want to put down. Ian McEwan’s newest novel The Children Act has everything I love in a book----great characters, exquisite writing and, a real plus, words I had to look up! A very interesting book! The novel felt very tight and concise, almost like a short story. I didn't know much about the plot before I started, so it was neat to just go along for the ride. Our book club actually discussed it for a long time, which is always a good sign!
