I loved Lancaster's memoirs but didn't enjoy her first novel. This one is better with the conceit of a former high school "mean girl" forced to repeat her past and fix her misdeeds so she doesn't end up a jobless mess living in her parents' house at 37. Most of the metal references went over my head and the ending is a little dreamy, but I enjoyed it as one would a very good romantic comedy (perhaps something with Hugh Grant from the '90s). For casting, I suggest Jenna Fischer (with blonde hair)

While I occasionally laughed out loud while reading this (usually at the autocorrects), I got tired very fast of Lancaster's overuse of passe non-words like "totes" and "whatevs." It was a good book to zoom through on vacation, nothing more. I also confirmed what I've known since I read her first book: If I were to meet Jen Lancaster, I would loathe her. And no doubt she'd feel the same way about me.

It was a quick, mindless read. I guess you could say it got better as it went on, but I'm probably kidding myself. It was nice to have something mindless to read.
