I've read a few books about discovering after someone's death the person you knew may not have been all that they were (The Pilot's Wife and The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. specifically). These books were about the loss of a husband and friend respectively, but each time I couldn't help but relate it back to the loss of my own mom. I wish I could give this a 3.5 rating, but since is a first effort, and a very respectable first effort at that, I went with 4 stars. This is not your typical "southern chick lit" piece. It has a good background story, a bit of mystery, a little romance, and it definitely keeps moving along. It was sometimes difficult to keep track of all the story lines and names of Janie's friends. However, I basically liked this novel, and would try another one by this same author.
