Wow. That was amazing. And it went from 4 to 5 stars for me in the final few pages--that rarely happens. It all comes together marvelously well. Daryl Gregory just did a reading where he hailed this book as a classic that inspired him. I have heard the same from other writers and Connie Willis always mentions his short story "The Man Who Lost The Sea"--which I clearly need to run out and read RIGHT NOW. ...more

The actual stories are mediocre, but the ideas Sturgeon has of a possible path to transhuman make this very much worth the read.
