I thought this would be a creepy ghost story for my teen book club to read in October, but like A Certain Slant of Light, this was more of an exploration of existence beyond life than a ghost story.

With an intriguing premise about the afterlife, this book was a compelling read in much the same way as If I Stay. I was intrigued as I read, but the characters haven't really stuck with me. However, I admired Huntley's way of dealing with death, and the resolution was quite satisfying. This is the first title I've read from this year's Morris Award shortlist (for debut YA authors). I ended up skimming this one. I just didn't care all that much about the main character. There was no real emotional pull for me, and so I basically skipped to the end to find out the solution to the mystery.
