Eh?Eh!
I got to read this almost a week early due to well-connected connections! So rad!, the connection (thanks, karen! bestestestest ever!) and the book!

As promised, Sabetha is presented. The story jumps back and forth from their early days and a crisis that occurred while learning to work together to the current crisis. There isn't too much connecting the two storylines except giving background to the relationship between Locke and Sabetha.

While wildly entertaining, this was more a lull compared to

Many years ago, the Thieftaker sold a little boy to an old priest. The old priest turned out to be a brilliant con man and criminal, and the little boy became Locke Lamora, a man who is basically the embodiment of the platitude "too smart for his own good." After conning the rich, breaking the Secret Peace, fighting a mage and bringing down at least one government, Locke and his bff Jean Tannon are at their lowest point yet. As the book begins, Locke is dying of a slow-working poison with no pos ...more

Seriously, why is Scott Lynch so damn talented? I would file a complaint with those in charge of unequal talent distribution, but I fear that would only slow the release of the next book in this series, and that simply would not do.

In this volume, the world-building continues to amaze, and the twists and turns and double- and triple- and other multiple-crosses continue to zing with dizzying and entertaining speed. The big draw, though, is the appearance, in the flesh and in extended flashbacks,

If you've already read the first two of the series, "The Lies of Locke Lamora" and "Red Seas under Red Skies" you are going to read this. It's good, but a step down from the others.

The witty dialogue is getting tiresome.

The love scenes and story clunked.

The two distinct plots wove together loosely. It would have been better as too books. The better book was the flashback plot.

Lock Lamora is less himself in this story. It's disappointing that someone so given to flauting society's rules is su

Flashback within a story, both featuring his romance with Sabetha, an eely but smart girl. Almost all the women here are quite sharp. There's a play as a team building exercise, and a political/dirty tricks competition. Also a third story about the machinations within the bondsmagi. Stories about Locke's past, and future, all of doubtful provenance. Still not sure what Chains' big plans were. ...more

You know when you start reading a series, and you have to wait forever and ever for the next installment ? Well, that is what happened here, I think I had been waiting for 3 maybe 4 years for book 3. Was it worth it ? In a word yes, yes it was. I love these characters and in searching for volume 3 I found that he has at least 3 more in the works ! This makes me very happy, I can not wait to dive in again, lets hope it is not another 3 year wait.
