A really good read with poetic writing, but I felt like it wasn't complex enough. After the two girls get rescued and taken to live with their father, Carey and Jenessa are both totally excited about hamburgers, new clothes, and comfortable beds, and there's only a token mention of Carey missing her old home in the woods and sometimes feeling out of place with kids her age. I don't think the author thought through all the ways in which it would be difficult for the girls to make friends, to be a

The summary of If You Find Me that I first looked at made me think it might be a thriller or suspense novel, but it’s actually closer to a contemporary or realistic novel. I actually thought this would be unlike anything I’ve read and while I was mostly write, it shared a few elements with the film Winter’s Bone. For the most part I enjoyed If You Find Me, even though parts of it were a bit melodramatic.
