I REALLY need to stop reading Monica McCarty books. The men are Neanderthals with granite chests (I challenge anyone to find a McCarty book that does NOT say the hero's hulking muscles are like "granite" - always with the granite!) and the women, well, the women are petite and "spunky" ... and by "spunky" I mean "hopelessly vacuous."
And maybe this is awful of me, but I can't help thinking: "huge hulking guy" + "tiny woman" = serious trouble in childbirth.

So I'm reading this and it's sooooo good, then I read the author's note at the end, and I'm like, "Holy crap, woman! These people were real??" I mean, the romance part of it is made up, but they were really married! And the Highland Guard part of it was made up, but many of these guys were really allies of Robert the Bruce and fought at his side! Like how cool is that???
