Loved it! It's about a woman who wakes up surrounded by the dead bodies of the people who attacked her before she lost her memory. She has no idea why they were trying to kill her, and she has no idea HOW she killed all of them. But thanks to letters from her former self, written to her future self, she slowly pieces together her former identity. At the same time, she's going about her former self's regular routine, trying not to let on to anyone that she's not who she used to be. Further compli

Playing Cards Challenge: 6 of Diamonds
I actually have 52 unread books that I own in either print, Kobo or iPhone format, so I decided to assign each of them a playing card to start reading them.
So I've finally, finally read this book, which many family members have raved about and has always looked intriguing. And I have to say, it mostly lives up to the hype! I'm speechless. Writing a review for The Rook is going to be really tough-- I never ended up writing a review of The Republic of Thieves because I liked it so much it was almost impossible for me to review in a way that wasn't just me flailing and going READ IT RIGHT NOW-- but I'm going to do my best, because this was SO GOOD it really deserves for more people to know it and love it.

This book was just really fun. It had a fun plot, great characters, enough depth, and a great hook -- I mean, amnesia, one of my very favorite tropes! -- but the thing that stands out for me most is that it's fun. It's lighthearted supernatural bureaucratic intrigue, a subgenre I had not previously experienced. I'm happy that now I have.
