Reading this book made me happy. It's not that it was a completely happy book, and it's not that it was the best book ever, but it just really set well with me, it fit perfectly into that space inside of me that wanted a book.

An fun read, with a captivating story that was slightly too predictable. The author's writing is described as being like Daphne du Maurier's and Diana Gabaldon. I thought Outlander was smutty and simplistic, and thought House on the Strand was creative and fascinating. This book is middling. Good for the beach.

I can understand why some people liked this book. It's well written and well researched. Neither the story nor the characters grabbed me, the plot was almost completely predictable as were the characters. It just was not the kind of book I enjoy.

I’ve been meaning to read something from Susanna Kearsley forever and now with The Winter Sea I’ve officially made that happen. (I just checked and I added ithis to my wishlist in 2011 and then acquired it in 2020… so it’s been a while!)
I’m not sure I want to write too much about this book, but I will say that it brought me to literal tears, and any book that brings out that kind of emotion is always one I’d recommend.
