Violet is a mostly normal teenage girl half in love with her best friend Jay, except for her ability to find dead bodies based on their "echoes." Most of the time it's just dead animals, but when she stumbles across several dead girls, she knows she's dealing with a serial killer, and she believes she's the only one who can find him. But she has to be careful, because the killer is out there, hunting her.

There's just a touch of supernatural in this one, and not a single vampire. Violet has always had a connection to dead things, especially the ones who died from violence. They send out a kind of vibration and noise that call to her, until they've been put properly to rest. There's a little graveyard for woodland creatures in her back yard.
Her parents, fortunately, aren't freaked out by this. Apparently she inherited a family talent that her grandmother had, too.

Whoa, a book about a girl who finds dead bodies? Believe it or not, that wasn’t enough to put this book at the top of my TBR pile. However, once I heard that the story had a bit of romance, I had to get my hands on it. A lot of reviewers have raved about how great this book is, so I went in thinking I’d love it. Derting did a fantastic job of creeping me out, but in other respects this book fell a bit short for me.
