well, i wanted something to tide me over till Strength of the Few releases, and while this definitely reads more like YA than Will of the Many does (boy spends ten minutes with girl, now they both have Feelings), it's still really fucking good. i love how miscommunication is never a source of interpersonal conflict in Islington's books (so far), ppl hide things intentionally but misunderstanding is almost nonexistent. and damn if the time travel stuff doesn't have me hooked. i read this one in e

Okay, I went back to read this book a second time because the rest of the trilogy was finally available and I wanted to refresh my memory.
I know that 5 years ago, I felt this book held much promise as a good, if not great trilogy.

This was my first book by Mr Islington. And while I finished it I wasn't that taken by it. There are a lot of different POVs, some of them I could not find the impetus to care about. Sadly there was a lot of skimming throughout. I'm not sure, maybe it's because I read so many outstanding fantasy novels this year, this one did not blow me away. I figured out a major plot point way too early and knew about it way before anybody else. I'm not sure but maybe it's just a case ...more
