I am in grad school, reading 200+ pages of dense technical writing per week per class, and I miss narrative. That said: I cannot read any more words, my eyeballs are full. I remembered this book, randomly, and found an audiobook on Libby, so I happily listened.

This book was a bit of a disappointment for me. I heard it was similar to Anne of Green Gables, and I love Anne so I was looking forward to great things. Yes the story is similar, but the main character, Elnora, has nothing on Anne. She's too perfect--she's nice, pretty, hard-working and just happens to be talented musically--it was downright sickening. I found this book very strange. I wanted to love it but it was so clunky! It's not like I don't read older fiction, I do and am comfortable with a lack of modernity in dialogue or storyline, but the characters are so odd and I'm not sure I believed in anyone's transitions. I was also sad that there was so little descriptions of her surroundings. I was hoping for some great nature writing but was sorely disappointed.
