This children's book possibly wins the award for Setting I Would Never Have Come Up With Myself: Zimbabwe, in the year 2194. The three overprotected children of General Matsika manage to sneak out of the house for an adventure in the city - where they are almost immediately kidnapped. Their distraught parents hire the detectives Ear, Eye and Arm, who each have special powers due to prenatal exposure to radiation. I remember hating this book with the burning passion of a thousand fiery suns, but I can't remember why??

What so provoked your ire, 11-year-old me?

I mean, I could read it again to try to find out, but...there are just so many other books in the world. It may have to remain a mystery.

In future Zimbabwe, three detectives are on the case of kidnapped children. Each of the detectives has a mutation that helps the investigation: the Eye has excellent eyesight, the Ear can hear a pin drop miles away, the Arm is very...can't remember. Whatevs. A fun adventure story! ...more
