Meh. This story didn't quite hit the right note for a thriller, a ghost story, or a psychological drama for me. It started out with a thriller beginning, and then failed to follow up on it. This book has a mystery/suspense/horror feel to it but it's also about friendships, teasing, bullying etc. It's about a woman who comes home to care for her mother who has Alzhiemer's and on the night she returns a girl is murdered in the same way her childhood friend was murdered 30 years ago. The book goes back and forth between Kate caring for her mom and remembering her friendship with Del "the potato girl" and Del's eventual murder. I couldn't put it down.

McMahon has yet to write a book that hasn't sucked me in and wrung me out.

This isn't exactly horror, but more of a thriller with a supernatural element.
