Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!
Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon--the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose p ...more

Gwyneth has always known that the time-travel gene runs in her family - she just always thought it was her cousin Charlotte who would be inheriting it. So she's a little surprised when she drops back in time for a few minutes. She's completely unprepared, and the Guardians (and Charlotte's mother) are super annoyed. Suddenly Gwyn is being sent on mysterious missions, and she isn't sure who she can trust - possibly not even Gideon, the other time traveler, who is super hot.

I enjoyed Ruby Red. It follows 16 year old Gwyneth Shepherd in present day London, in the shadow of her prettier cousin, Charlotte who has been groomed as the next time-traveler in their line. It's YA so the characters all felt a little young to me and oh! to be that concerned about a boy. Fun. As the first of a trilogy, it mostly set the scene but I look forward to seeing how Gwen and Gideon deal with the sinister and malevolent Count Saint-Germain. I'm always slightly cheered to see him as a c

London? Time travel? Stunning cover? Of course I had to pick up Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. Sure, I had a few small problems with this book, but I sped through it and am very eager to read the rest of the series.
Ruby Red gets off to a fast-paced start as Gwen time travels right away. I was really intrigued by Gwen and the fact that she was positioned as something of an underdog. She’s not my favorite character of young adult literature, but I enjoyed reading her story.

Time-travel, with echoes of Dan Brown... and some romance. "Ruby" is the latest time-traveller, the culmination of the Twelve and the one who will open (or unlock) some secret sought by Count Saint-Germain and the Guardians. Charlotte has been raised since birth to be the Ruby, trained in foreign languages and dancing and old-fashioned pursuits. Problem is, it's her cousin Gwen who actually has the time-travel gene and is the Ruby in question.

This was really good (and, no lie, I've got the next two in the series on hold at my library already), but it was not the FANTASTIC book that some reviews on here led me to expect. It was just ... good. In fact, it was borderline fluffy cotton candy.

Has it really been almost 2 years since I read this book??????????
I will reiterate what I said in 2014. The audio quality is AMAZINGLY poor. The narrator is great, but did she record it in some sort of booth?
I got to the end and went, "Wait? What? That's it??" cuz the story just picks right up in the next book and flows through book 3, so I guess I forgot where the breaks were! SO GOOD!

This is a hugely fun time-travel adventure, with a quick pace and entertaining characters. There's a good balance between the adventure, mystery, romance and humor. The first in a series (and the only one available in English so far) this sets up a larger plotline for later books, but still has enough resolution to keep readers happy. I found it hard to put down and I'd definitely recommend it, especially to tween girls and anyone who enjoys a light time-travel story. I'm impatient for the next

Okay, so I don't usually like fantasy, and I don't usually like time travel, but I really liked RUBY RED (which had both!)
