Tempted to give this one three stars but too many details were off.

The Girl Who Fell is a fast-paced novel about manipulation and abuse in a teen relationship. I've seen a lot of reviews complain that there was no chemistry between Alec and Zephyr, but I totally understood why she was attracted to him. He did a lot of things that are stereotypically romantic--cooking, etc. and Zephyr felt very strong physical lust for him. It's the type of relationship where even though she says she's in love, Tempted to give this one three stars but too many details were off.

He did a lot of things that are stereotypically romantic--cooking, etc. and Zephyr felt very strong physical lust for him. It's the type of relationship where even though she says she's in love, as a reader you don't necessarily believe that.

I found it really off that Alec's parents were so noticeably absent. I get this parents were busy with work. But seriously, how do you not notice your own kid sneaking off to do creepy ass shit? I also wan't a huge subplot where Alec and Zephyr both had daddy issues. Honestly, it sounds like Alec's father raised him to be kind of a dickhead, whereas Zephyr's dad was someone who made an honest mistake.

There are also some details in this book that feel just a little bit off. There was a line where Zephyr and Alec are in a car with the defroster off and Zephyr is like, "OMG it's so romantic it's like being in a cloud." No one who lives in a winter climate would ever actually think this! We had a car that was basically totaled during a fender bender because we could never get the window to defrost--idk if it was the heating coil or the defroster or what.

One good thing is that there is an author's note at the end, where the author lists resources for teens who are in abusive or manipulative relationships.
