There are some books where it's all set up for a great last paragraph. I put Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and Morgenstern's The Night Circus into this category, and now Gullstruck. The culture of the Lace was novel, with their fixed, gem-studded teeth (which may be the part of the book that sticks with me); the story was mostly about their persecution and resistance, and the place of vengeance, which certainly has real world application today but was generally unpleasant to read on.
