Even the decisions that you make as a child will affect you into your adult life. CeeCee Wilkes made some stupid choices as a teenager, and I don't know any teenagers who can say that they DIDN'T make stupid choices. Teenagers feel that they are invincible, like nothing can ever happen to them. We, as adults, do very little to help teenagers realize that they can be touched by life-changing events as much as adults can be. I like Diane Chamberlain, but agree with reviewers who found this book totally unrealistic - from the opening incident to the ending, this is one of the few Chamberlain books that just didn't ring true. To me, Chamberlain seemed to ignore her strength with this book, which is portraying deeply flawed but still believable and ultimately lovable characters. I have mixed feelings on what to rate this book. There were some flaws and some parts that I found annoying but the story sucked me in and I found the book hard to put down so I'm going with 4 stars. It's not great literature but it was definitely an entertaining read. In some ways it made me think of Jodi Picoult before she felt it necessary to tackle every social issue under the sun. I would definitely read more by Diane Chamberlain.
