Here we have a fresh, fun YA fantasy based on Icelandic mythology . . . and I just found out about it like a month ago! YOU HAVE LET ME DOWN, GOODREADS FRIENDS!

2.5, perhaps. Complaints in other reviews about the romance being less than convincing and the villain having no other motivation than "I'm eeeeeeeeeeeevil" are not without foundation. Other things that bothered me: teenagers don't talk like Katla does. It's very "a writer is here." Also: "sentry" is not a verb and "herded" is not what the members of the herd do. And the members of the school paper staff seem very confused about the difference between news and opinion pieces. Either that, or the
