I'm not really a big fan of dystopian novels, or reading about the end of things asbwe know them. However I have now found the Trifecta of said novels. The Stand, Station 11 and now Year One. All three are very character driven stories. Like, could you imagine The Stand without Mother Abigail, Tom Moon or The Trashcan Man??

I think that what made this one unique is the rising of the Magicks, the Uncanny Folk, and the way the plague, called "The Doom" here, came about. I thoroughly enjoyed my firs

A more serious entry

I know I was expecting a more classic Nora Roberts book. Wheat I got, instead was an incredible apocalyptic story: something of a cross between the cross-country trek for the walking dead and Nora Roberts’ magic and witches tales. So I tended to skip over those parts in this book. I want to read the whole trilogy because the story interests me . I hope she will change the interactio ...more

Fortunately, this wasn't the case (and the plot started diverging at some point too) and the dead people actually stayed dead, but it still made for a bit of a disconnect at times.

I mostly really enjoyed it, but got so frustrated with the Purity Warriors. I hate bigotry in any way, shape or form, and really

This book owes a lot to Stephan King. It reads like a slightly softer version of THE STAND. That said, it was much better than I expected it to be. I am really looking forward to the next books.
