As you might imagine, this isn't going to end well.

I loved how Marissa Meyer told the story. It was fun and full of the joy of Lewis Carroll's novels while telling a story entirely its own. There was a lot of wit and wordplay within; Marissa Meyer does a lovely job of building her own world while stepping into Carroll's (which is a pretty big shoe to fill, frankly). I completely bought the transformation from sweet girl to Queen of Hearts.

Where I wasn't a major fan of the Lunar Chronicles, I am

Really good stand-alone fantasy, and went some places I didn't expect. The audiobook narrator was fantastic as well. ...more

This really took me by surprise. I had no idea you could take the queen of hearts did bake some tarts and the Raven quoth nevermore and jabberwocky with the slithering toves and Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater and off with their heads! and combine them all together into a romance in Wonderland that had me absolutely riveted. So so good!

After I read this I picked up the original Alice and skimmed a few pages and I was really surprised at all the little throwaway lines in Heartless that were originally

I love Lewis Carroll. And this book was wonderful and heartbreaking. This is more than a tribute to Alice in Wonderland, it covers all his work and that is Poe. And heartbreaking.

I adored this book, although it broke my heart at the end.

This book is essentially an origin story of the Queen of Hearts from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and thus you can expect it doesn't have a happy ending. How does a sweet young woman with dreams of owning and operating a bakery with her friend become the apoplectic and violent Queen we are so familiar with? Although it was rather sad, I immensely enjoyed reading about all of the characters and I thought this was a very interesting i

It begins really well. Cat is an amazing young woman, about to start a bakery just as soo as she can, and one of the shining bits of the book is her friendship with her bakery's-to-be-accountant. Except, of course, she is supposed to marry the King. Even knowing that this can't end well (because, you know, Queen of Hearts), you hope that the spunky young woman path isn't totally unhappy. Enter Jest. Her brains pour out her ears, she becomes boring, life beats her down, she makes terrible choices ...more
