This made me think a little bit of the Flora Segunda trilogy, because of the grandiose names and because of the slightly similar senses of humor — possibly also because of the pirates — but also in a "these things are really opposite" sort of way. Flora is neglected by her family for reasons that are or seem good: her mother is essentially running the country and her father is essentially crazy. This was a joy to read. Clever and fun, I think many kids will be able to relate to Jane, an ordinary girl surrounded by a town of extraordinary people. And pirates! Loved the pirates.
