Sedgwick usually writes books that contain fantasy elements, and this is no exception. It's a historical novel, though, about a girl who has a premonition that her beloved brother is going to be killed in France in World War I. She sets out disguised as a nurse to find him to try to save him. It's a very realistic portrayal of what nurses had to deal with then. The ending had an unexpected twist, which I liked. ...more

I expected this to be much better than it was, given its subject matter was WWI England. I think, like me, the author had read Testament to Youth, and other books of that ilk but he was too atmospheric and didn't spend enough time on plot. ...more
