Huh. I didn't realize this was a re-release of a book from the 80s. So when I started reading it I was like "why aren't they texting? why does a character say he's going to 'phone' someone? why do they mention going to the 'pictures'?" I was starting to wonder if it was set in the 50s or something? And then the writing just wasn't that good--Twisted Window, you, sir, are no Down A Dark Hall. I just don't have time for this. Mediocre, especially the very end where the author pretty much forgets that one of her characters has been pre-verbal throughout the whole book and suddenly has the kid start talking in full sentences. Editor? Editor? Where were you?

I'll be blogging this soon, but I am way, way confused as to why they tried to update it for 2012 by inserting random cell phone references. All it does is make them seem more out of place, because there are still landlines and phone books everywhere, nobody is ever on a computer, there is no such thing as an amber alert, and, oh, dating culture and the way people talk is still totally 80s. Really wish she didn't try to update these, because she was always the only 70s and 80s novelist who didn' ...more
