After mourning that this book was NOT part of the Twilight series, I finally grew to really like the story. At first it was a little too sci-fi for my tastes. But eventually the narrator's voice grew on me--it was very similar to Bella's voice. And once it got more into the relationships (it was a love triangle with four entities and three bodies) I got sucked in. I know this book was marketed for adults but there was no swearing or sex that would make it inappropriate for a younger audience.

Well, I actually really liked it. The premise of the novel was intriguing...an alien species takes over other species, absorbing memories and characteristics of each "host". Wanderer encounteres her host Melanie and learns what it means to be human. Now, we still have the young female, enraptured and protected by her older counterpart, but the story revolves more around the two strong females halves-Wanderer and Melanie...and their competance and strength. I wasn't thrilled that Wanderer was so

Meyer claims this adult novel is her best written work to date. I agree. Although not hard core sci-fi, it is still sci-fi. But it's not about little green men and space ships - the message of The Host is all about what it means to be human. And how can we know what something is until we meet it's opposite?
Yet again, I love having a 600+ page book that can pull me in and consume me for about 48 hours. I hope that Meyer has more up her sleeve. ...more

I never expected to actually like a book by Stephenie Meyer, let alone LOVE it. Color me astonished.
I'd really like to read more, and I am shamed that I let the non-horror show (where the hell are my bloodthirsty vampires? STILL ANGRY ABOUT THAT) that was Twilight get in the way of reading this. ...more

This is where I wish I had the ability to give this book 3.5 stars instead of 3, but oh well. I had trouble getting into this book. There was too much alien stuff for me. I also had trouble connecting with the characters and caring about them. Although I have to say that by the last 1/3 of the book I was hooked. I didn't want to put it down. But my problem was that it had taken me 2/3 of the book to get to that point. I don't like to have to work to get to that point. Overall it was pretty decen

I really liked this book! The writing was still elementary, though a vast improvement from Twilight. I thought the concept was really interesting and thought-provoking. However, you can still sense the "overly nice" Stephenie Meyer-aspect.

I would have given this a 5 star if Stephenie had a better editor. The story was amazing, awesome and thought-provoking but she is very long-winded at times. I have the same complaint about her Twilight series.
Great blending of sci-fi and romance. Something Stephenie does well is leaving you torn as to who to root for...Melanie or Wanderer (Host) ...Jacob or Edward (Twilight).

I started this book and could not put it down! I read it in one 7 hour sitting, not going to bed to read instead. Stephenie Meyer is a great story teller. I knew what was going to happen before the characters did, but was still so involved in the story that I had to read it to be sure. It was a fun read.

It took a little while for me to really get into what was happening. But once I was in, I couldn't stop reading! It's so much more than just a love triangle...it's like a love square. Great story, great ending.

I started this book ages ago but had to return it to the librabry before it was finished. What I've read so far, I like more than what I got from the first TWILIGHT novel so I'm looking forward to finishing this.
