Not at all my usual type of book — a bookseller friend actually curled her lip when I said I'd just read a Sophie Kinsella — but man, I loved this book. It was so goofy and funny but also warmly romantic, and it had an almost mystery-novel feel with the missing ring, dodgy characters with uncertain motives, and the Poirot references. (view spoiler)

My only regret is that I fear I started with

I don't usually like "chick lit" so I wouldn't normally consider a Sophie Kinsella novel, but this book got SO much praise, people said the audiobook was just so funny and entertaining, I had to try it. After DNFing two audiobooks in a row, I was really in the mood for funny and entertaining. Alas. Today is just not my day. This is the same reader I didn't like in the last book I DNFed! This makes THREE DNFs in a row, all within 24 hours. Unprecedented, and hopefully never to be repeated. ...more

Reading this book I remembered why I stopped picking up Kinsella's books as soon as they came out. And yet, it also reminded me just what I love about her. Talk about a love/hate relationship.

First for the negative, it's that the girls in all of Kinsella's books feel like the same character. They always make these slightly ditsy decisions, and then spend the rest of the book attempting to fix it. While there are some differences between the characters, this book could have easily featured the gi

"Charmingly" quirky woman does something stupid and lies about it to hide her error from her Mr. Wrong and his family. Has Meet-Cute with rich, handsome, single man who saves her. Then she saves him back. You know: the kind of book where you can skip entire chapters without dropping the thread. Also the kind of book you can leave behind in your hotel room rather than pack it for the rest of the trip. Trust me: your library won't miss it. ...more

If half stars were possible = 3.5

I know when I pick up a Sophie Kinsella that it's going to be a good book. I've never been disappointed. She's a great writer with fun, quirky female leads. And thank the chick lit powers-that-be that Poppy doesn't work in publishing or "finance"!

I highly recommend this book if you're sick in bed. You should also have tea while you're at it.

If you need a pick me up romantic comedy with a HEA

Look no further. I really enjoyed this book. The MC’s voice here could be just as easily interchanged with any of the other Sophie Kinsella MCs but the point is the trouble these girls get themselves into and how it works out anyway. Get some hot chocolate and go to town.

I can't decide whether to give this 3 or 4 stores, as it isn't my usual book, but I really did enjoy it. It was a complete fluff of a story, but the ability of the writer to get the wit of the story and using the footnotes was an absolute blast. I laughed out loud at a few good spots, and just had fun reading it. ...more

This was more of a straight up chick lit book than I've read in a while and I have to say I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. Granted, it was silly and fluffy but it was the perfect book to read while home recuperating. Would make a great beach read. ...more

I've read a couple of these tehchno/epistolary novels now and I think this is a good one. It includes not only emails which tend to be more like traditional long-form letter, but texts, which are more like dialogue. Good one. ...more

I like the shopoholic series so I thought I'd read this. It was very reminiscent of those books but I think the quirky, bumbling but endearing main character that Kinsella writes has worn a little thin on me. ...more

My favorite Kinsella novel yet! All the charm of the Shopaholics, but the main character is relatable and competent.

I found this to be like most Sophie Kinsella novels---an easy, breezy read with some moments that made me laugh out loud. It follows the same pattern as most of her novels, so it is nothing groundbreaking about it, but it serves a purpose for a relaxing fun read. I liked this book better than Twenties Girl but not as much as her earlier novels. P.S. The footnotes got annoying!

Three stars because Jane Entwistle narrates. I love listening to her!
