I first read the paper version of this in 2003, but this time I listened to the audiobook, which has a terrific narrator (Simon Prebble). Luckily for me, the last 13 years have completely obliterated this book from my memory and it's all brand new to me again. I quite enjoyed it--the plot is good, the character of Peter Diamond is great, and the writing is snappy. Good stuff.

Traditional British police procedural, ala Ian Rankin. Told from multiple perspectives, 1st in a series. Plenty of red herrings and great character development. Greatly disliked Inspector Diamond until his transformation at the end. Wonderful sense of place in Bath and loved the Jane Austin plot elements.
