I was so sure I'd like this. It has aliens! Giant robots! A documentary format! I ... did not at all like this, to the point where I'm giving up halfway through.

Really, though, I should have given up at 14%, where the book has one of the worst "I see this was written by a dude" moments I've encountered in any book this year. A military dude, talking with a shady figure whose name he does not know, who has power over his life, decides to lapse into a very sexual description of his superior office

This book was brilliant and the audiobook was phenomenal.

Recommended for fans of The X-Files; this is full of the same global political intrigue, but with cool alien artifacts instead of goofy black oil.

The story opens with a little girl finding a giant metal hand, which later attaches to a giant metal forearm. I have seen this.

(This arm happens to be in NJ. It does not appear to turn into a robot. But you never know. It’s NJ, after all.)

Loved the story and loved the style. Could be me tapping into another one of my geekdoms, but I can totally see this making a pretty cool movie...or even better, an HBO/AMC TV series.

How-ev-errrrrrr....

I think I'm a little jaded on book series, because the second I realized that the main narrative wasn't going to wrap-up in this volume (my copy didn't mention anything about this being "Book One"), I started to get grumpy. I've been burned by too many book series not paying off lately, and don't

i love stories in epistolary format, and listening to this on audio rather than reading was totally the right way to go. my thoughts mostly take the form of "critique, but, compliment" : i still stand by my assessment that this was heavily inspired by pacific rim, but in the end that didn't turn out to be a bad thing. there's definitely a few moments that make it clear that it was written by a straight dude, but overall it was good to its women characters. no queers, but thankfully romance isn't ...more

Had to abandon. The interview transcript format was so awkward and limiting, the female characters talked about sex and relationships in the most unrealistic ways. Just bad.

I can see the potential here but the format is my least favorite and really didn't do much to draw me into this slow-paced story. ...more
