A 2.5 star review. Rounded down, as it was only very little more than "okay".

My update from page 200 still stands - "Not a particularly good book, but a question was asked in the first chapter that I desperately want answered, so I keep reading regardless. It'd better be a good answer!"

The plot is slow. Rio is not interesting. The writing is either stale or too young or a combination of the two. Probably stale. Very divergent 2.0 and that premise didn’t make a lot of sense either but at least the world building made more sense.

The good: this doesn't appear to be a series.

The meh: the plot. It's generic, with only the underwater setting to make it different from other books (books like City of Ember, for example).
