A Single Thread was a very good story; it's about a single woman (Violet) in her late thirties in post-WW I England (long enough ago that she was labeled a spinster) and how she tries to make a life for herself in a new place, away from her family and everyone she knows.
At first her new life seems pretty dismal but little by little she begins to make friends and joins the Winchester Cathedral Broderer's Guild (embroiderers) who are making cushions and kneelers for the church.

Bells and needles

Bell ringing, needlepoint, surplus women, England between the wars. Lots of my favorite things with a lot of Latin tags mixed in for good measure.
