This is very much a traditional children’s mystery. It’s got the spunky protagonist, the limited parental oversight, your world where the internet and computers and screens don’t exist, the amusingly named and eccentric minor characters, and of course the child nemesis. I am not very tolerant of spunky heroines who charm their backwoods neighbors and say ain't but realize the audio format doesn't work for me with this genre because it is so much slower than the reading experience would be. I will return the CDs and try the book. ...more

Moses Lobo's life began during a hurricane, wrapped up in a blanket and sent downstream on a billboard. By age 11 she's known as Mo LoBeau and the "daughter" of Miss Lana and the Colonel - an inquisitive, straight A student looking for her Upstream Mother. Both she and the Colonel are new to the town of Tupelo Landing yet they've been (mostly) accepted by the town and considered part of the family.

One day a Detective from Winston-Salem appears, and shortly thereafter Mr Jesse is found murdered.

small southern town populated by quirky characters including a feisty 12 year old girl named Moses out to solve a murder mystery and find her missing moms (both biological and adoptive) against the backdrop of an approaching hurricane.

Will appeal to fans of Jennifer Holm (May Amelia and Turtle), Polly Horvath (Everything on a Waffle), A Year Down Yonder and Moon over Manifest.
