This was fun in an off-the-way sort of way.
I liked the characters but there seemed to be two "teams" (boys and girls) and it wasn't entirely clear how they were connected. They didn't interact much, but seemed to have an undisclosed backstory? even though this is listed as the first book. ...more

How I love Bad Machinery! Odd little mysteries with some odd, but very realistic, young characters. I haven't read any of John Allison's other series but I follow these adventures with interest. The girls for me are the strongest characters: sometimes it's harder to get a sense of the boys' personalities (Linton, especially). The girls are so perfect, though, clever and funny and flawed like real kids. Lottie will forever have all my love, but Shauna and Mildred are pretty great, too. Looking fo

Middle schoolers solve the mystery of a cursed football stadium. This is cute, but there's not much holding it together. The story meanders, and transitions from one page to the next are often abrupt as the story switches gears or skips to the next day without any kind of segue; it's probably a result of it originally being published as a serial webcomic, but in book form it's jarring.
